Disposable Whelping box
We have been making cat and dog heat pads in the UK since 1973. We also manufacture a range of cost effective disposable dog whelping boxes and dog whelping box kits. The whelping box is manufactuered from double walled corrugated cardboard. We introduced these whelping boxes in 2007 as an alternative to very the expensive PVC whelping box and over engineered disposable whelping box. Since introducing the our range of whelping box we were frequently asked if we could supply additional products so we added accessories such as: wooden puppy rails and fleece bedding (as an option).
Petnap Whelping Box.
Having a disposable dog whelping box avoids the potential problems of cross contamination as the whelping box can be disposed over after the whelping.
In April 2010 we also introduced a range of competitively priced PVC plastic re-useable whelping box. Using a plastic whelping box allows users to re-use them over and over. This is a consideration if you are thinking about more litters in the future, or for kittening
The Petnap whelping kit is designed to provide a range of the essential items you will require for the coming whelping. Rather than shop around a variety of suppliers for each item we have brought them all together in one pack.
Adding a petnap heat pad to your whelping box is also an excellent option to consider when caring for the new born pups. A heat pad can provide valuable warmth for the newborn pups in the whelping box and give mum a well earned rest. As well as whelping boxes we sell a wide range of heat pads including Aluminium pads and a range of vinyl pads all in a choice of sizes. When selecting whelping boxes always make sure that you consider how often you will need the whelping box. Does the whelping box need to be re-usable or would disposable whelpong boxes be a better idea if it is a one off event.
Once you have selected the right whelping box type, next work out the right size. The best way is to measyre the mum from nose to base of tail. Add four inches to this as the whelping box puppy rails take up some room and then chose a whelping box this size or the next size up. Our whelping boxes are all square in design. This makes them easier to fold down for shipping and storage. We limit to number of size choices in our whelping boxes to make sure we can manufactuie them in bulk to keep the whelping box prices down and to make sure our whelping boxes are always in stock.

STEP 1 Choose the correctly sized whelping box
All our whelping boxes now include wooden puppy rails as standard
The best way to be sure of the right size of whelping box is to measure the mum-to-be from nose to base of tail. Add 4 inches to this if you are going to use puppy rails, and then select a whelping box that will allow her to lay flat along one side.

find out more | | STEP 4 Absorbent pads
23" x 29" (730mm x 580mm) Absorbent Pads:
These pads are inexpensive and very absorbent.They are made from a paper pulp material so do not contain harmful chemical crystals. Now would be a good time to add these to your order as we pack them with the whelping box so when ordered with a box there is no additional carriage to pay.

find out more | | STEP 2 Consider a fleece lining
The fleece bedding is machine washable, pre cut to fit the whelping box and designed to allow fluids to drain through the matting to provide a comfortable, clean and hygienic padding for the bitch and her litter of pups. Remember to put in lots of newpaper or absorbent pads under the vet fleece to absorb fluids. (Absorbent pads are available further down this page: step 5)

STEP 3 Select a Pet Heat Pad
In their early days of life a newborn puppy is totally dependant on warmth being provided for it. One common cause for premature deaths is hyperthermia. There are a number of forms of heating available but we recommend using a heat pad in your whelping box as these are low wattage and so low cost to run and provide warmth where it is needed (under the pups) rather than heating the atmosphere. We have three sizes available and all are listed complete with a fleece cover. We suggest these are used on top of vet fleece, not under it. No more than half of the whelping box floor should be heated. These are vinyl pads and so not suitable for pets that chew, if you would prefer metal pads then please follow this
